What Is Your Purpose For Blogging?

As a blogger, has this question ever hit you?

I guess it might have but you have not really answered the question as yet. Many people are starting blog because their friends are doing it, it’s easier to manage than a website, doing it as a hobby, to make money online for escaping the 9 – 5 lifestyle, or might be because it’s a fast catching internet fever.

Almost every website that you come across is a blog and they are managed and run by the youngest as 12 year olds or even younger. What about you? Blogs are easy to manage and update often depending on what you blog about.

If you are a blogger what is your true purpose for blogging?

Why Do You Blog?

Your purpose for blogging is dependent upon the niche that you choose.

For me, the reason why I blog is to help new webmasters or bloggers and other webmasters or bloggers to become successful in their online journey. I have been successful in making money online, I have also been successful in driving traffic to my site and I want to teach other how to do so.

If you want to be successful in doing so you need to be passionate about what you blog about. It makes no sense if you create a blot and then you can’t maintain it.

I suppose I blog to want to make money because that’s what we’ve all been told that we could do. But now that I’m focused my main goal is not all about the money but instead passing on what I know and just being myself. Of course I’m going to take the money when it comes,(as I feel it will) but my main goal is to help others in my chosen niche.

My purpose for blogging is not only writing for my readers, but to write in a way such that the reader would wait for a new post on the blog! Money is a different thing.

To be frank most of the bloggers ( infact 99 percent if not cent ) blog for Money and Money is the main purpose behind blogging. There is no doubt about that but there are many persons living in this planet for whom blogging is passion, it is not the medium of feeding himself and his family. Some does it to interact with the rest of all the world. Well the motive varies but according to me ostly everyone does it for Money including ME! πŸ™‚

My main purpose of blogging is to take it as a hobby. Hobby is a self satisfaction thing for me. I often try my luck writing in some local newspapers about technology but here online I am up with my own blog πŸ™‚ and that’s a personal satisfaction.

I blog because I have no one to share what I feel with. Someone out there would be listening somehow. Think of it as techno-carthesis. πŸ˜†

I blog for two reasons. I can name them in less than four sentences, too.

    1. I blog to inform people. The society of the planet Earth needs to be informed with information, making them more knowledgeable.

    2. I blog to have fun. I don’t like being bored, and that’s that.

It’s best to ask yourself this question in the beginning, as it’ll help to mold your future content. I did it by coming up with a mission statement and putting it front and center on my “About” page. I make sure the bulk of my posts contribute to that mission statement.

Not only does it help with focus, but it really defines the types of content you’ll have, and it’ll help your audience know if YOUR blog is a good fit for them (your audience will become a lot more targeted).

Thanks for the great post, I think more people should ask themselves, “What is the Purpose of My Blog???”

Also this is my first time here (I came over from Onibalusi’s blog) and I’m really liking what I see so far, keep up the great work!

Kharim, Your post reminded me of why I started blogging in the first place. Just like Melvin and others say, it is about having the financial freedom. But, as I continued blogging, I realized that passion also comes to play. Passion about what I do is what drives me to get up every morning and do what I do – Blog.

This post should not be taken with levity. It is obvious so many people don’t know why they blog. I blog to build an audience, a name and my reputation, I also blog to impact people’s life. Nothing more (I think for now), the name I build can now be used to market.

Thanks a lot for the thought provoking post,
    -Onibalusi

BTW: I have grabbed your feed (I rarely do that except for high quality blogs – your blog is top-notch, keep the content going).

To be honest most bloggers would say its for the money, and I wouldnt argue that. However for me there are some others that fall into the same line with the financial rewards and it includes the pleasure of being read, the obvious benefit of branding yourself and lastly to try to help other bloggers out.
