In this post I will be showing you how you can promote your blog in 13 different ways, and if you follow each of these 13 tips then I guarantee that your traffic will more than triple in then next 2 weeks.

Here are your 13 free blog promotion tips to help you gain traffic…

13 Free Blog Promotion Tips

  • Comment on Other Blogs
  • An easy way to give your blog a promotional boost is by commenting on other blogs. Each time you comment, enter the same name and URL in the corresponding fields in the blog comment form. Doing so will help your search engine optimization efforts over time. When you leave relevant, interesting and useful comments on other blogs (particularly other blogs that are related to your niche), people will notice and follow the link back to your blog to learn more about you and read more of what you have to say.

  • Reply To Comments
  • Replying to comments left on your blog is another way of promotion. This will help to strike a conversation. Other visitors or readers will see this and will also want to join in the conversation.

  • Participate in Online Forums
  • Join forums related to your blog’s niche and become an active, contributing member, always help others on the forum. Include a link to your blog in your forum signature, so it’s always available to other members. This is a very great way to promote your blog.

  • Use Social Media
  • Join social networking sites like Facebook and LinkedIn and include links to your blogs and recent posts in your profiles. Join social bookmarking sites like Digg, StumbleUpon and Delicious and submit great content (not just your own). Additionally, consider jumping on the microblogging bandwagon and join Twitter. All of these efforts will increase awareness of your blog and give it added exposure.

  • Guest Blog
  • I recently blogged about guest blogging giving you some tips on how to become a great guest blogger.

If you offer your services as a guest blogger for other blogs in your niche, particularly ones that get more traffic than your blog then you will be gaining lots of traffic if you write great contents.

  • The Use Of RSS Feed
  • Setting up a RSS feed button on your blog makes it easy for your loyal readers to not just read your blog but also know when you publish new content. So this will make it easier for them to read your article and come back to make a comment.

  • Hold a Blog Contest
  • Blog contests are a great way to attract new visitors to your blog. The most important thing to remember when using a blog contest as a promotional tool is to get the word out about the contest by announcing it.

For example, a tweet and win contest. This will help you to gain lots of traffic from Twitter.

  • Write Unique Content
  • As the saying goes in the blogosphere, “Content Is King”. Writing unique content is the best way to get automatic promotion.

If you have unique content and your readers really liked it, they will want to share what they have read with friends and others who will also find your article interesting. This has happened to me lots of time where I write great content and I get lots of retweets, trackbacks, etc.

Frequently updating your blog with useful content is the first step to building your blog’s audience. The content you write is what will keep readers coming back for more. Make sure you have something meaningful to say to them and say it often to maintain their interest and keep them loyal.

  • Submit Your Blog to Search Engines
  • Most search engines provide a ‘Submit’ link (or something similar) to notify the search engine of your new blog, so those search engines will crawl it and include your pages in their results. It’s important to understand that simply submitting your blog to search engines doesn’t mean your pages will appear at the top of a Google search results screen, but at least your blog will be included and will have the chance of being picked up by a search engine.

  • Use Trackbacks Links
  • Links are one of the most powerful parts of your blog. Not only are links noticed by search engines, but they also act as a tap on the shoulder to other bloggers who can easily identify who is linking to their sites. Linking helps to get you noticed by other bloggers who are likely to investigate the sites that are linking to them. This may lead them to become new readers of your blog or to add links to your blog from theirs.

You can take links to other blogs a step further by leaving a trackback on the other blog to let them know you’ve linked to them. Blogs that allow trackbacks will include a link back to your blog in the comments section of the post that you originally linked to. People do click on trackback links!

  • Submit Your Posts To Social Bookmarking Sites
  • Taking the time to submit your best posts to social bookmarking sites such as Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit and more can be a simple way to quickly boost traffic to your blog.

I always use BlogEngage, created by Brian, which is a great social bookmarking site for bloggers. I encourage you to join and have fun.

  • Search Engine Optimization
  • When you write your blog posts and pages, remember to optimize your pages for search engines to find them. Include relevant keywords and links but don’t overload your posts with too many relevant keywords or completely irrelevant keywords. Doing so can be considered spamming and could have negative results such as your blog being removed from Google’s search entirely.

  • The Use Of Images
  • Images don’t just make your blog look pretty, they also help people find you in search engine listings. People often use the image search options offered by Google, Yahoo! and other search engines, and naming your images with search engine optimization in mind can easily boost your traffic.

As a reader, I like to read blog post with images. I don’t know, but I have that feeling when we are still kids wherein we don’t even know how to read? We just rely on the pictures and fully understand the story with all the pictures. I must say that I fully understand something because of the pictures.

That’s true. Images catches the eyes and appeals to the eyes as well. So using eye catching images will also make readers click on your article and want to read more about what you have written πŸ™‚

Thanks for the comment Mike 8)

Personally, I like how I think about the relationship between the picture and the post. Sometimes that gives me that ”Ah…” reaction whenever I discover the deeper meaning of the discussion. It’s more enjoyable to think while reading than reading without think at all.

I agree with your points. Also, submitting your site to directories help a lot. Paid directories have give you more link juice than free ones though DMOZ is an exception.

I think the funny thing about guest blogging is people forget the basics – good English! I reject 70% of the submissions I get, probably should be higher but maybe I’m a softy, just because the english is not bad, it’s terrible!

Just started using images at the top of my blog posts, so I can’t be sure if that was the reason for the up-tick in visits the last few days or not. Data sample may be too small, but even if it’s only a small % boost to traffic it still a positive boost πŸ™‚

Way to go Steve. The more images that you have then the more traffic you will get through Google. But don’t just put any image on your site, use images related to your site or article topic.

Replying to comments is very important and I find it strange that in many blogs, the article author doesn’t care to at least say thanks for commenting. What’s the problem, considering that it takes less than a minute? Just don’t get it. I have seen comments close to the article’s length itself and in my opinion it just isn’t fair if those don’t get replied. I have happened to make such comments and the feeling of not getting a reply is not a good one.

“The Use Of Images” Can’t agree more. Right now about 80% of my search engine traffic comes from Google Images. Although I do have a lot of them due to the nature of my blog.

Thanks for your comment Slava. I am not sure about my percentage but I check on my Google Analytics stats, I see where I gets lots of traffic from the images on my blog.
