16 Horrible Mistakes I Made While Blogging

I have been blogging for over 3 and a half years now, you may think that everything is going well with me pertaining to blogging, not making any mistakes.

Well that statement isn’t true.

While blogging I made tons of mistakes and in this post I will show you the type of blogging mistakes that I made.

Filling My Blog With Adsense

Signing up for Google Adsense is one of the steps that you can take to monetize your blog. When you place Adsense on your blog and your visitors click on an ad unit then you get paid for that click.

I wanted to make money from my blog and what I did was to display adsense everywhere possible on my blog. I got to realize that my blog visitors are not here to click on my Adsense but to read what I have written for them.

So what I did was to cut back on my Adsense ads, plus the more adsense on a blog then the slower it will load.

Started My Mailing List Late

When I started blogging I didn’t create a mailing list until about after 10 or 11 months into my blogging career.

This was one of the worst mistakes ever. If you haven’t started your mailing list as yet, then I urge you to do so. This will help yo benefit your blog in the long run and also help you to make more money as well.

Not Writing Posts On A Regular

Blogging is about writing and sharing your knowledge with others. Time upon time again I kinda slacked off in writing articles. Sometimes 3 to 4 weeks would pass where I have written a single article.

I depended on guest posts from others to keep my blog alive and I know that this was wrong.

Accepting Low Quality Articles

When I had stopped writing on a regular basis, as mentioned above, I started to accept low quality guest posts so that it shows that my blog is being updated.

This was really bad because it shows that I didn’t have time for my blog and was posting almost anything submitted to my blog.

Not Persistence With Guest Posting

A great way to get traffic to your blog is to do guest posting. I have done guest posting in the past and have gotten traffic from my articles that I had written.

But after awhile the traffic died down. This was because I wasn’t consistent with being a guest blogger. This is still one of my weak point that I need to work on.

No Optimization Done On Articles

Free targeted traffic to your blog can be acquired from search engines. I do get a few traffic from search engines but not a dynamic amount to cause my articles to go viral. This is because I hardly do proper optimization for my articles.

Too Much Plugin Installed

I love great WordPress plugins which helps to enhance my blog. One thing for sure that I did wrong was to install too much plugins at once on my blog.

The result: it cause my blog to load very slow and also some plugin caused conflicts with other plugins. So what I did was to install only the necessary plugins on my blog.

Not Backing Up My Database

I hardly ever do backing up of my blog’s database. At times I tend to forget to do it.

So what I did was to install a plugin which does this for me.

Didn’t Reply To Comments On Time

I did reply to my blog comments, but didn’t do so when I got the email notification. This was really bad.

It is always best to reply to comments as soon as you get the chance so that you can build an active blogging community.

Accepting Duplicate Guest Posts

In the past I have published duplicate guest posts on my blog. This is because I had no time to check for plagiarism of the article. I had deleted the articles that were duplicate.

Wasted Money Earned From My Blog

Whenever I earned money from my blog, I would use it to buy stuff from eBay or other stuff online which wasn’t really needed. I didn’t save that money or put some of it back into the up-building of my blog.

Didn’t Stick With My Blogging Schedule

Sometime ago I made a schedule so that I can make blogging work for me. Sad to say I don’t even remember what that schedule looks like. I had fallen off track and blog when I felt the urge to.

Creating a schedule is one of the best approach that you can take to blogging so that you can create time to make your blog a success.

I Slowed Down In Blog Commenting

I love doing blog commenting so that it can help to get traffic to my blog and to also build my backlink. I hardly ever do comment and that mistake should have never happened.

I am now commenting on more blogs so that it can help to boost the visibility of my blog.

Blog Post Promotion Was Weak

Whenever I publish a new blog post, I would only do promotion upon publishing. After that I forget about that new blog post.

If I need to get readers for my new blog post then I have to be promoting not just when I publish, but also the next few days after.

I Didn’t Engage Enough

When I got comments on my articles I failed to engage with the commentator. I also failed to engage others on social media and on forums as well.

If I did this then it would have given me more advantage to get some traffic to my blog.

Waited Too Long To Write While Brainstorming

Whenever it was time to come up with new blog post ideas, I saved the topic and sub-headings that I would come up with. But the problem that I had was that I waited too long to start writing my articles. I started losing my ideas that I had came up with and eventually those ideas were gone.

I later found out that it is always best to write on your ideas as soon as you get them.

While blogging it’s good to spot your mistakes and fix them so that you can get on the right road to blogging success.

Analyze your blog and see if you had made any mistakes in the past, do what you can to fix them so that you can become a successful blogger.
