5 Important Things You Should Never Ignore As A Blogger!

When blogging there are certain things that you need to ignore.

Other things should never be ignored… well that’s if your desire is to become a successful blogger.

Most pro bloggers today take into consideration the things that are most important to their blog.

What about us existing bloggers or new and upcoming bloggers? Do you take the time out to address the most important things which can help to make you a successful blogger?

You may be wondering what important things I am talking about. Well, please read further to find out.

Do Not Ignore

Never Ignore SEO

When writing your blog posts, do you normally take SEO (search engine optimization) into consideration?

If you really want to get targeted traffic to your blog and lots of it, then you need to optimize your articles for search engine results.

Targeted traffic does make a blog successful. This is because the visitors to that particular blog finds information on that blog which is tailored to them.

The visitors find information which targets their needs, hence this is called targeted visitors.

Optimizing your blog for search engine results not only help to bring in targeted traffic to your blog, but also increases the chances of you making some money. Most pro bloggers will tell you that they have a higher conversation rate through traffic from search engines rather than referral traffic sources.

Tips On How To Get Search Engine Traffic

When writing your blog posts, in order to get search engine traffic you need to remember keywords. When a person searches for information in Google they basically will type in a few words or phrases in the search bar. Those few words or phrases can be used as keywords to get blog traffic.

What you now want to do is sprinkle these keyword on your blog post, just as you would do with the sprinkles on a freshly baked cupcake.

Here is how you do that:

  • Use keywords in title
  • Insert keywords in subheadings
  • Use the keyword in the first sentence of the article
  • Remember to use the keyword in the last sentence as well
  • Add the keyword to the keyword meta tag section
  • Use the keyword in the description meta tag section
  • When you write remember to sprinkle keywords as you go along
  • Insert images with the keyword in the title and alt tag
  • Use SEO friendly URL on your blog
  • Inter-link to other blog posts with the keyword to related article
Ignoring SEO on your blog posts will help to make you fail in getting search engine traffic. So always be sure to take these SEO tips into consideration while writing.

Don’t Ignore Comments On Your Blog

This is one of the same reasons why I had stopped accepting guest posts on this blog., because some of my guest bloggers ignored the comments left on their articles.

If you are a blogger then replying to comments left on your articles (on your blog or through guest blogging) is a must for blogging success.

Since I had stopped accepting guest posts (for now) I have written 11 articles so far and has gotten over 600 blog comments.

Amazing isn’t it!?

How To Make Money From Your Blog By Selling Advertisements is my number 3 top article on this blog with 86 comments, and the amazing thing about this article is that I had just written it the other day.

This goes to show that when you reply to comments left on your articles you are actually building a foundation for your blog to stand on. Blog commenting builds up relationships and also the community centered around your blog.

Ignoring comments left on your blog is like not appreciating the time out that your blog readers took to read the article and to also make a comment.

You should value their comment and also thank them for coming to your blog.

Never ignore lonely comments. You may regret it one day.

You Shouldn’t Ignore Networking

In order to build a brand for your blog, to become a successful blogger or to make money from your blog then networking is a must.

When I say networking I mean that you should be friendly with other bloggers and also your blog visitors.

Being friendly with other bloggers can help you to become a featured guest blogger other their blog and getting your blog post for approval much quicker. When these bloggers write articles they can even mention you in their article with a link back to your blog (backlinks for your blog).

Being friendly with your blog readers and visitors will make it easier for them to subscribe to your blog. They will want to share your blog posts. They leave comments on your articles.

What you need to realize is that most people who leave comments on your blog has a website, a blog or a forum. What you can do to have a successful networking campaign so to speak, is to return the favor by visiting their sites and leave comments where appropriate or share one of their pages of interest.

Networking can also be done on social media sites such as Twitter or Facebook. These are two of the most popular sites on the web and loads of bloggers can be found there. Take time out to connect with other bloggers and network with them and build up a strong friendly relationship.

Never Ignore Backing Up Of Blog

I know that most bloggers write articles everyday or every other day without remembering that their blog is connected to a database in order for it to run smoothly.

Also on your web server some, if not most, of your blog files files are stored on your server.

How often do you backup your blog?

Database

I remember, some time ago, waking up one morning only to check on my blog, only to find out that my database got corrupted.

This made me so sad that I lost all my blog post.

My blog was empty. It was really hard to start all over again.

Luckily I had an awesome WordPress plugin on my blog which automatically backs up my database.

This plugin is called WP-DBManagerWhat this plugin does is to help you manage your WordPress database. Allows you to optimize database, repair database, backup database, restore database, delete backup database , drop/empty tables and run selected queries. Supports automatic scheduling of backing up, optimizing and repairing of database.

With this plugin you can set it to backup your WordPress database automatically. For example you can set it to backup your database every day, every 12 hours or every 6 hours.

You can use it to repair your database if something goes wrong with it.

Email your database to your every time that it is backed-up.

Restore your database to one of the backed-up version.

I urge you to install this plugin WP-DBManager.

Files

Backing up of your WordPress files is also important. You may be working on your blog doing some coding and by mistake you delete a file that was really important to your blog.

Errors can occur as well and files can get deleted.

How will you get back these files?

Well now you see the importance of backing up your files on your server?

My blog is hosted with Hostgator.com and they back up my files for me every month. So this gives me reason not to worry about losing my files because they are being saved by my hosting.

If you are not on Hostgator then you can sign up and have a much more secured webserver who can back up your files for you.

Sign up with Hostgator using this coupon code and only pay $0.01 – Coupon Code: WEBSUCCESS

    Thats very very imp things…
Plugin that you listed here for WP DB Manager is it takes back up of files & Data base or just database.

  2. I agree with your post point to point and you are very clear here.simply can say that-
Networking is main part here so you can not avoid it And backing-up of data should not be avoided.

    • Hey Bhushan,

Networking is very important. The more friendly you are with your blog readers then the easier it is to market to them.

      Thanks for the comment.

  3. To all the bloggers out there, NEVER FORGET TO BACKUP YOU BLOG! I failed doing this before and I paid the price for it. I was able to get all my data back but it took a lot of work and money.

    • Thanks for sharing your experience. I almost lost my database as well but the plugin that I mentioned helped to save my blog.

      Thanks for commenting.

  4. Hi Kharim,
I think comments are just the outcomes of a blog. It shows how your blog is being accepted by people. So, this is definitely the most vital part and bloggers shouldn’t ignore any of its comments. Secondly, I think the SEO point is also very effective. Thanks for the share!!

    • You have mentioned two great things which helps to build up blog traffic. Comments and SEO. They are very important and a must do for bloggers.

      Thanks for the comment, Aditi.

  5. I think everybody should find the balance between personal things, blogging and business. I don’t think that there is universal strategy, but for sure all those tips will work well, if blogger is consistent and have good discipline.

  6. I am not sure if the pro blogging tips will be helpful for me but I’m very sure in one thing that the tips I learn myself will surely going to help me and for my readers in many other aspect of blogging.

Recently, I started with backup in my blog. I was not doing that before, but I did this time as I saw someone been into trouble as they haven’t backup their blog.

Comments matter but not every comments matter. Most of the comment comes with no meaning that are unable to make any reply on them.

    • I think you should follow some of these pro bloggers blog. Their tips are awesome.

I thought you knew about backing up your blog. If you had lost your database then you would have been in deep waters. All your posts would have been lost.

Well this is where it seems like you have people making comments for links and not contributing to the community. I delete such comments like those and approve the more up-building comments.

      Thanks for your input bro.

  7. Hi Kharim,
you have mentioned a good point here.I have seen many guest bloggers that don’t even reply to their blogs and even if they do reply they stop doing it so after some time. And this behavior is not for bloggers. We are here to help and we are happy with that.

    • It irritates me when a guest blogger ignores their comments.

That’s one of my reasons for not accepting guest bloggers for now.

      Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the nice tips Kharim!

    • I must say that you are right about that.

With all the changes being made in SEO, some people are confused on how to do it right.

Networking does take time, but we have to put in the extra time if we want more success.

      Thanks for the comment, Jane.

      Thanks for the comment, Anshul.

  15. Reeja Mathews says:

    thanks

  16. Hey,

You have written a great post for the bloggers. These points are very important for the bloggers.

    Thanks,
    Mohammad

  17. Good tips here, I’m a newbie so don’t have much experience under my belt as yet but one thing I’m sure of is that I intend to reply to every comment, if people can take the time and trouble to leave a comment, then the least I can do is acknowledge it, this too makes you come over as professional too I think.

    • Hey Lenin, welcome to my blog.

You are so right about that!

If people come to your blog to read what you have posted then you should take the time out to reply to their comments. This is a sign of showing appreciation.

Thanks for your comment. I really appreciate it.

      Happy blogging!

  18. Never ignore SEO, but never completely rely on it for traffic.
Commenting and Social Networks are the foundation of keeping relationships alive and kicking. I’m happy, you stopping guest posting has been beneficial to your blog as it was a silent killer.

    Engagement = WIN

    • You are so right pal. I do SEO on my articles but I never rely highly on it for traffic. This is because Google might slap your so blog hard it makes your cry.

I try to get people to subscribe to my blog and also get traffic through blog commenting and guest posting.

      Thanks for the comment bro.

  19. Sai Krishna says:

Bro First of all I’d like to say you thanks for mentioning about security part also in this post. I’m sure that now days all bloggers not ignoring seo, comments, social media, but so many (me also) ignoring about security part.

A backup is always must need to be safe, Recently Once My site got effected by a malware. Its automatically applied to all of my sites hosted on same account. In that situation my old backup is helped me to restore my blog.

    • That’s great pal and thanks for agreeing with me.

It also helped to save this blog when I ran into database problems.

      Thanks for the comment.

  20. Instead of WP DB Manager, you can set daily backup for your shared hosting plan or use another WP plugin to backup and send the data to Google Drive. It’s much safer 🙂

  21. Ryan Biddulph says:

You have share an excellent article! comments are expressing the how many people is being accept your blog. So this is very important part of bloggers. Blogger shouldn’t ignore any of its comments. Thanks for sharing good work.

    • You are so right about that pal. Ignoring comments left on your articles is like ignoring compliments.

Thanks for your comment as well 🙂

My latest article: How To Make Your First $100 From Your Blog

      • Absolutely!
Ignoring comments left on your articles is like ignoring compliments. When You don’t give response to commentator, it means you are not add real value to the discussions.
        Thanks.

  34. all of these points are extremely important
i was once about to lose one of my blogs because of the lack of a recent backup, thanks God we managed to bring it back
    many thanks 🙂

  35. Great article Kahrim, i like it! Only I’m not sure about SEO… I mean, the SEO bloggers do is publish awesome content on a regular basis. And hopefully some basic optimization, but apart from that I don’t think search engines are that important anymore. Networks, as you said, drive traffic probably far greater than search engines. So it would probably be better to focus on communicating with people, not robots 😉

  36. Hi,
    kharim
I enjoy to read your blogs. your post are very good.

  37. Thanks for your informative post, which is helpful to those who work in blogs. And you have reminded them something they should notice.

  38. Faissal Alhaithami says:

Backing up the entire blog (including the database and content) is something bloggers can never turn a blind eye to. Whether you do it manually (it’s not as hard as many would think) or automatically (via a WP plugin), you should do it as frequently as you update your blog.

    • I must agree with you on that.

Backing up your blog manually is not hard to do. Just a few clicks of the mouse and thats it.

I do it automatically in case I don’t have the time to do it, and when I do have the time I back it up manually.

      Thanks for the comment pal.

Hope to see you here again.

My latest article: How To Make Your First $100 From Your Blog

  39. Hi Kharim,
    You said it so well.

The frustrations that can come from having your database go awry is best imagined and not experienced.

In one sentence: “I was devastated!”

I almost gave up on blogging after that disaster.

I have since paid for Backup Buddy, which does a fantastic job of restoring WordPress blogs to their original states.

If you are not backing up, you gambling, not blogging… 😉

    • I was gonna give up on blogging as well when that happened to me. I got so worried and didn’t know what to do.

Now that I am backing up on a regular basis then there is nothing really for me to worry about.

Thanks for sharing your experience and comment.

  40. it really a great post, thanks for sharing this post…!!

  41. When you are writing your blog posts then SEO is needed. when you post a blog on your website. you really want to get targeted traffic to your blog and lots of it for this purpose we needed a Expert SEO than one optimize our article and gain the more and more traffic. Your article is very helpful to optimize a artcle.
    Thank you.

    • Hey Ravi,

Yes SEO does play a big part in blogging for getting traffic from search engines. At times SEO experts may be needed for new bloggers, but as time goes by if you use plugins then this can help you to do your own SEO.

      Thanks for the comment.

  42. I totally agree with this sentence “When writing your blog posts, in order to get search engine traffic you need to remember keywords” because these are used to search a particular topic or niche.

  43. Great tips I know people who have tried to avoid SEO and failed miserably. I have never understood that cause it isn’t all that hard to do the basics. And just forgetting to back up your site once can make for a horrible time trying to get it all back.

    • Hey David,

I totally agree with you. SEO basics is really easy and nothing hard to master. Once you get to master that, then that’s all it needs to get traffic from search engine.

Also backing up your blog should be done regularly, especially if your blog is big.

      Thanks for the comment.

  44. Gary Tyrrell says:

Yes, never ignore pro blogging tips because it can work for you too. They don’t become who they are now if it were not of the techniques they used. It’s just takes patience and determination to achieve your objectives.

    • Hey Gary,

Yes pro blogging tips from the experts are very helpful. If you want to be successful like them then applying their tips is the best way to go.

      Thanks for the comment.

  45. Rajkumar Jonnala says:

    Hi kharim,

wonderful posts, this are things which is must for every blog. And believe me same thing happened with me “My blog corrupted”. at that time im not awesome of the plug in “wordperss back up plug in”.

    thanks for the tips.

    • Hey Rajkumar,

I at one point didn’t remember about backing up as well. But it’s good that a plugin was made to do this automatically.

      Thanks for the comment pal.

  46. I think ignoring comments on your blog, Kharim is the #1 blogging sin that can be committed!

Not only is it disrespectful to those readers who took the time to read, absorb and respond to your content, but it also looks horrible. If there are a sea of user comments on a particular blog and no response from the author, newcomers will see this as a sign that the blog has been ‘abondoned’ and will likely bounce straight off the page.

I notice you engage almost all of your visitors in blog comments, Kharim. Do you find that this approach reduces your bounce rates and similar statistics?

    • Hey Ralph,

I like that you way put it like that, blogging sin 😀

I agree with you that if a comment section of a blog is not being attended to by the blog owner then other visitors looking on will not be encouraged to comment.

This will cause the blog bounce rate to be high.

When I reply to comments I find that most of my blog visitors will come back.

      Thanks for the comment.

  47. SEO IS A Thing That No Blogger Can Ignore.. It’s The Life Of Our Blogs and We Can’t Do The Mistake of Leaving SEO. Thnks For Your Tips..

  48. I like the SEO part the most. It’s really important for getting traffic to your blog.

  49. Great points, and the cool thing is that even though this post of yours is from 2012, all the points you made are still salient! Good content is still the most important thing, and even better if it has ‘staying power’.

I may reference this article in an upcoming write-up on christiainlifehacker.com, if that’s okay with you.

  50. HY, Nice points. I am using “WordPress Database Backup” plugin for my blog backup and i must say this plugin is amazing.

  51. John Michael says:

Great post, especially about backing up your blog, I am going to install the WP-DBManager plugin today thanks to you recommending it, have a great day.

  52. This is very helpful info, do you really think it helps to have out bound links to other sites with the same keywords you are trying to optimize the page for. Should those links be no follow or do follow? Thanks Mike

    • Hey Michael I would say yes it does help. Think about it spiders are always trying to find what the content of a page is about and by having out bound links to other sites with the same topic and keywords as your site would I think help them determine what the page is about. Nice post Kharim I found it interesting.

    • Well I would recommend using do-follow is you trust that site that you are linking to. But otherwise I would make it no-follow.

  53. Hi Kharim,

We should target keyword that user search in search engine. but Adding keyword in first paragraph and subheading is so important. It’s my own experience. I also use specific keyword in first sentence and subheading like H2.

No doubt, Pro blogger are our heroes in blogging. we can ignore them. Because they are also our teachers in blogging/. What you say about it?
