Converting a new visitor to your blog into a loyal reader can be quite challenging, if you don’t know how to do it correctly. Lots of top bloggers turn new visitors into subscribers on their first visit, having them coming back to their blog each time a new blog post is published.

This is what we as new and upcoming bloggers should try to accomplish, because first impression always gets more attention. The first time a new visitor comes to our blog we are not there to greet them, like business people do in their offices. We have to set our blog in a way which speaks for us so that we can get a firm hold of our first time visitors, and eventually hoping to convert them into loyal blog readers.

What does it really take for you to get new visitors to become loyal readers? Please follow the tips below on how to do so effectively.

Grab Their Attention With Headlines

A great way to get your first time visitors to read your blog post is to write great headlines. As this point states, you have to “grab their attention with great headlines” so you can get them to read your article. Writing interesting headlines will want to make your visitors make an extra click on the article link to find out what you written because the headline seems interesting.

When writing headlines it should give th visitor an overall summary of the information in the blog post. Even though the headline might be just a few words, it should br written in a unique way which capture the attention of your first time visitors.

For Example - "Blogging Tips" can be a headline for an article. It might not get you first time visitors to your blog because you didn't summarize the article in the headline.

But if you used "Great Blogging Tips Which Will Skyrocket Your Blog" will make you get tons of readers to your article.

So don’t be afraid to write detailed headlines for your blog posts, it will do the trick in capturing the attention of your visitors.

Write Interesting Introduction

Most bloggers use excerpts on their blog to display a preview of the blog post. This is normally the introduction to the blog post and this will be the part where your visitors will first see upon coming to your blog. Your introductions to your articles must be so interesting that the visitor will be anxious in reading to the end.

A boring introduction simply means a boring article. The more interesting the introduction then the more fun it will be for the visitor reading the article. So remember to keep your introduction in mind because this is what will determine if your visitors will read your article.

Display The Number Of Post Comments

If you have a great article and there are lots of comments on that article then you should not hide it. Don’t be afraid to show off the number of comments that you have on your articles. If a visitor comes to your blog and notices that your featured blog post has over 50 comments then this person will want to know what is so interesting in this article because the number of comments that it has.

This also means that other visitors has liked and benefitted from the article and this will drive your first time visitor to want to take a read or 2 out of this article.

Write Helpful “How To”/”Tips” Blog Posts

These are my type of blog posts that gets the most views, the “How To” and “Tip” blog post. Including these phrases in your headlines can make you get lots of readers to your articles. When your visitors see this, they will come up with the conclusion that this particular blog post has helpful information which will help to build up their blog, to make money online or whatever the article is about.

Another thing which also gets lots or readers are tutorial posts. Tutorial posts never fail and will always continue to get lots of visitors because of the help they will get from such blog posts.

Get New Visitors To Subscribe

If it is possible to get your first time visitors to subscribe to your blog on their first visit then you have successfully gained a loyal blog reader. But this is not easily done. You have to make sure have great content on your blog which really grabs their attention. Make it easy to subscribe, not just using rss feed but also email subscription.

Not all first time visitors know what rss feed is because they might be new to blogging. But most people online know what email is and how to access it, so offering to deliver your blogging tips to their email inbox free of cost will make them want to type in their email address and hit the subscribe button.

So remember to include both rss feed and email subscription on your blog.

Hi, Kharim… I followed your link from another popular niche site. Just wanted to add my two cents. As a new blogger and a born writer, I agree that great headlines and content are key. Since my posts are more editorial (I’m Booored with Jeremy Kyle) and less niche (How to Make the BIg Bucks Blogging), I will have to try to figure out a way to incorporate some helpful tips/how-to’s in my opinions…. Now if I can get some of the people who pass by my blog to actually make a comment! Any takers? Where’s that article of yours: How to Get More Blog Comments?!

Just to add to the point you made about having an interesting intro – it’s also important to make sure that each new section has an interesting lead-in, to keep the reader reading. Web surfers are very impatient, and on average spend very little time on a web page.

100% agree! What I liked most is the display of number of post comments because that’s what attracts me personally to a blog! I’m more interested to read a post if a lot of people found it interesting and worth discussing. I’m always after the quality and sincerity of the content, which are also the factors why I turn to be a loyal reader.

Thats true. When I visit a new blog that is one of the first things that catches my eyes and thats the number of comments left on their article. Lots of comments means that the article was good and the blog has lots of traffic. Thanks for the comment Aybi.

      Hi Kharim,
Usually it is very hard to get loyal visitors for a general blog as compared to a niche blog. But it is not the case for a website.
Content is the king and if you deliver the good and unique content then their are better chances to get loyal visitors.

Excellent article. I apprreciate the strategy explained by the author to make visitors to make RSS subscription. In all the posts a blogger posts it is better to include video tutorials explaining some points or techniques, or concepts. I request the author to write a post regarding RSS, RSS building and their benefits.

      Hey Kharim,

I couldn’t agree with you more. You provided some really great tips.

Although I write a lot of “How To’s” and “Tips” posts, I still fall short on creating killer headlines. That’s an area I need to work on. But this particular blog, it’s more about sharing my journey of what I’m doing to build a business and I’ve built up quite the following in a short amount of time. There is always room for improvement though.

Thanks so much for this, awesome post.

      Hey Kharim,

      Another fantastic post my friend!

You nailed this one bro, because people in fact need to write interesting introductions. You have to be creative with your introductions, and not just some boring crap. If you know anything about writing, then you should know that the intro is the most important part of your article.

That usually decided whether your readers continue reading the whole article or they say forget about it.

I always like trying to promote a post as much as possible. I want to display all the comments I can get on that post. You right the more comments a post has, then the more it will attract people to see what it’s all about. You have written many great articles about getting more comments on your blog. I’m going to go read some of those now.

      Thanks again!

      God bless,

I am all for interesting titles and introductions. There are so many blogs to read these days; if the first impression doesn’t work, a lot of people will just skip the content… which could be a waste.

Displaying high comments posts is great as people like to join in the conversation and some may subscribe to comments too. .

Hello Kharim, right now I’ve been focusing on visiting all the people that comment on my blog and returning the comment. At times it’s hard because some (not all) but some of the bloggers have topics I’m just not interested in. I will still tweet it but I tend not to comment. The majority of my blog readers write about similar topics so it’s very easy to be excited about their content and return a comment while tweeting.

This topic is actually right on target for what I’ve been discussing on y blog. I’ve been having issues getting my friend to engage on my blog but over the last two week I have managed to chance that around with the positive attitude mentioned above.

From what I’ve seen is bloggers just want to be noticed and if you help them achieve this they respect that. So when someone comments on your blog be sure to check out theirs and retweet their articles. Building relationships is so important to our online success.

I haven’t had much luck with getting blogging friend to subscribe. It’s rather hard and to be honest with all the social networks we use I think subscribers is overrated in today’s day of age.

I like your concept of writing helpful and tutorial like posts. I think if you provide information that people need they will visit. But to be realistic it’s hard to hit these points everyday!

Great article my fiend you know I tweeted it that’s for sure!

I try to visit some commentluv links but because of not being online regularly it’s kinda hard for me. I am still going to try and do it so that my blog readers see that I have interest in what they have to say as well.

      Hi Kharim,
These are all great ways to to turn new visitors into loyal readers. I’d add: addressing them by name when responding to comments. Click their comluv link and visit their blog to leave them a comment. Also sharing their posts on Twitter or Facebook is also a great way to show them that you care.
If they know that there are benefits to visiting your blog then they are more likely to return.

Thanks for that tip Kiesha, and you are so right on that one. I have always tried my best to personally address my commentators by name, ans this always seem to do the trick pretty well. πŸ™‚
